Integrated control in protected crops, Temperate and
Mediterranean climate

From August 31 to September 3, 2020 - Le QUARTZ, Brest, France

Dear colleagues and friends,

We are very happy to inform you that the next meeting on "Integrated Control in Protected Crops” will associate Temperate and Mediterranean climate issues, being jointly organized by the two corresponding IOBC-WPRS working groups. It will be the 17th meeting of the Temperate climate working group and the 15th meeting of the Mediterranean one.
This meeting will be held in Brest (France) from the 31st of August to the 3rd of September 2020 with the local organizers ASTREDHOR and CTIFL.

Integrated control methods in protected crops are a continuously improving process in which innovative solutions contribute to reduce reliance on pesticides and help sustainable agriculture. The implementation of such strategies needs a diversity of compatible solutions for the complex of pests and diseases affecting the crop. As new pests and diseases arise, or as changes occur in ecological and/or climatic conditions, the system needs to be updated and new solutions have to be developed. Therefore, sharing expertise and updates in scientific progress is a basis for the implementation of integrated and sustainable crop protection strategies.

In this context, it is our pleasure to invite you to attend this meeting and to bring together researchers, technicians and other professionals to exchange information and to discuss new strategies and research on integrated control in protected crops, under both temperate and Mediterranean Climates.

The meeting will follow the model of previous ones with plenary lectures, oral and poster sessions, a whole-day technical tour and social events, such as a welcome mixer and a banquet surrounded by the aquariums of Brest. We hope that this meeting will bring fruitful discussions about the most current issues in integrated control in protected crops and encourage information exchange that it will serve to promote research, innovation and development, both in Mediterranean and Temperate climates.

We believe that you will enjoy your stay in Brest, for the scientific session but also for the friendly and warm environment we do find in Brittany.

France has both temperate and mediterranean climate, this is why we are happy to welcome you to the meeting on integrated control in protected crops gathering temperate AND mediterranean climate, in Brest. It will take place at Le Quartz, located in the city center. Brest is located in the east of Brittany, in northern Finistère. It is a seaport city at the northwestern tip of the Armorican peninsula. Brest is easily accessed by train service and plane.

Expected themes

This event is an opportunity to promote research, development, implementation and training of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems in protected crops, and to promote cooperation between scientists, advisors and producers working in this field. Scientific presentation and talk will be combined with social events to encourage discussions between participants and to share ideas and knowledge.

The following themes will be addressed at the symposium:

  • New natural enemies, new pests
  • New pests
  • Food supplementation
  • Role of the plant in IPM (induced and/or genetic plant resistance, plant nutrition)
  • Biocontrole:
» Research impact: adoption rate (% growers using, why, why not, economic approaches)
    » Microbes (biopesticides, biostimulants)
  • IPM and environment (light etc.)
  • Microbiotes around roots, plants or parasites which help plants to defend themselves
  • Phenotypes

Official Language

The language of the conference is English.

Meeting venue

The Meeting will take place at:

60 Rue du Château

IOBC-WPRS aims and objectives

IOBC-WPRS promotes the use of sustainable, environmental safe, economically feasible, socially acceptable, control-methods of pests and diseases of agricultural and forestry crops. Therefore IOBC-WPRS encourages collaboration in the development and promotion of Biological and Integrated Production systems.

IOBC-WPRS fosters research and practical application, training and information, especially of biological methods of control, but also of all methods, including chemicals, within an integrated pest management context.

IOBC-WPRS elaborates guidelines for integrated production of agricultural crops, develops and standardises methods of testing effects of pesticides on beneficial species.

IOBC-WPRS offers presentation platforms (workshops, symposia, proceedings, publications) to scientists involved in research to improve agricultural crop production using methods and strategies in agreement with overall goal of IOBC. IOBC-WPRS helps implementing scientific knowledge into the advising and executing biological and integrated production. (source:
