Production: a downward trend... which is diminishing

According to provisional data from Agreste1, French fruit and vegetable production reached 7 million tonnes in 2020 (4,9 Mt of vegetables and 2,1 Mt of fruits), placing France fourth among European producers behind Spain, Italy and Poland.

Since 2000, French fruit and vegetable production has been declining. This decrease affects both fruits (38%) and vegetables (15%). It is directly linked to a decrease in surface area that has not been compensated for by an increase in yields.
