Russia and China: major producers supplying their domestic markets

Global production of soft fruit stands at around 4 million tonnes (2020-2022 average) (Figure 1). Blueberries lead the way with 1.8 million tonnes produced. They are followed by raspberries, with 0.9 million tonnes, and then by blackcurrants and redcurrants combined, with a production of 0.7 million tonnes.

With harvests of around 470,000 tonnes of blackcurrants and redcurrants and nearly 200,000 tonnes of raspberries, Russia is the world's leading producer. However, although Russian production has grown significantly since 2014 (+37% for blackcurrants and redcurrants, +49% for raspberries), the statistics do not show any significant presence of this country in international trade. These figures indicate that the country allocates the bulk of home-produced soft fruit to the domestic market.
